INSPECTION AND REPAIR ENG 5 Lap Valve face Valve seat NOTE ____ ______________________ After refacing the valve seat or replacing t and valve guide the valve seat and va should be lapped apping steps Apply a coarse lapping compound to th face CAUTION _____________________ Be sure no compound enters the gap b tween the valve stem and guide Apply a molybdenum disulfide oil to th stem Install the valve into the cylinder head Turn the valve until the valve face an seat are evenly polished then clean compound NOTE To obtain the best lapping results lig the valve seat while rotating the valve b forth between your hands Apply a fine lapping compound to th face and repeat the above steps NOTE Be sure to clean off all compound f valve face and valve seat after every operation Apply the Mechanic s bluing dye Dy the valve face Install the valve into the cylinder head Press the valve through the valve g onto the valve seat to make a clear pat Measure the valve seat width again If the valve seat width is out of spec reface and lap the valve seat 4 31
