¾ Tobreakoffcharging disconnect rst the mains supply,
then remove charging clamp from car body or negative
terminal (-) and charging clamp from positive terminal (+)
Charging a battery
The automatic battery charger has a charging characteristic
IU0U ( 3 step charging mode) Fig.3.
It can be left connected to the battery for long periods of time
without the risk of damaging it.
¾ (Mod. 5) Turn switch [A] to I/ON.
LED [F] ashes and the [Ah] and [Volt] LEDs show the
options previously saved.
¾ Use the [B] button to select battery voltage.
¾ Use the[C] button to select battery ‘capacity’.
¾ Pressandholdthe[B]for2secondstostartcharging
the battery.
(Mod. 3, 4, 5) The battery charger runs the battery
test (LED [E] flashes as long as the test lasts, and
then remains on until the battery is fully charged).
If LED [G] ashes once the test is over, this means that the battery
has fully discharged and that a sulphation process has begun.
In this case, it is advisable to run the
desulphation/ equalisation programme.
If the user does not run the desulphation/ equalisation
programme, the charging process continues under the
regular programme.
Once the charge is completed, LED [E] comes off, and LED
[F] comes on to signal that the charging process is over and
the battery charger is at the ‘oat charge’ step.
¾ Pressandholdthe[B]buttonfor 2 seconds to stop
charging the battery.
L The charging current absorbed by a battery recharging
depends on the state of the battery itself. For models
with charge settings, select the charging current
nearest to 10% of the capacity of the battery for
charging. (ex. I=4 Amps. for a battery of 40 Amp/h.).
Make sure that the battery capacity (Ah) is not less than
that indicated on the battery charger (C-Min).
Simultaneouschargingofanumberofbatteries.(Fig.4)
Clearly, charging time increases in proportion to the sum of
the capacities of the batteries being charged. Do not charge at
the same time different types of batteries, batteries of different
capacities (Ah), or at different charge levels.
Desulphation / Equalisation (mod. 3, 4, 5)
Never use the desulphation / equalisation function for
batteries installed on motor vehicles: Remove the battery
before charging it.
¾ Press and hold the [C]buttonfor2seconds to select the
desulphation/ equalisation programme (LED [G] remains
on). This phase can last 5 – 48h.
If once this step is over, LED [G] is off and LED [F] is on,
the desulphation phase is nished and the battery may be
salvaged.
If once this step is over LED [G] ashes and all the other
LEDs are off: The battery is sulphated and is not recoverable.
L Once the charging process has started, press and hold the
[C] button for 2 seconds to shift from standard charge to
desulphation/ equalisation mode, and vice versa.
“Safecharge”Function
The safety device that protects the vehicle electronics
(overvoltage limiter) is always activated in all charging phases.
In special cases, users may need to remove this safety device.
¾ To disable this safety device, press and hold button [B] for
5 seconds. LED [Volt] ashes
Troubleshooting
LED [D] ashing.
- The battery charger is connected but the polarity is
inverted (+ -).
- Short circuit at clamps
LED [D] and LED [E] ashing at the same time.
- Thermal cut-out tripped; charging re-starts
automatically.
LEDs [D], and ‘[Ah] ashing at the same time.
- Short-circuited or faulty battery
- Attempt to start the vehicle while the battery is being
charged.
- High charge connected to the battery (lights).
- Incorrect ‘Ah’ battery capacity selected.
The battery is connected but charging cannot be started
(LED [F] does not ash).
- Bad clamps-to-battery terminals contact.
- Output fuse tripped.
No LED is on after connection to the mains
- Mains input fuse tripped.
Safety fuse that protects against short circuits and
reverse polarity.[H]
This fuse interrupts the electric circuit every time there is
surcharge caused by a short circuit at the clamps or the
battery cells, or by reverse polarity at the battery terminals (+;
-).
However, there may be other irregular situations that the fuse
cannot protect against. (For instance, a battery with a very low
charge connected and the polarity is reversed).
Always make sure that the polarity is correct so as not to
injure people or damage things.
Disconnect the battery charger from the mains before
replacing fuses.
L The appliance is equipped with a thermostatic cut-out with
automatic reset which is tripped in case of thermal overload
to protect the device against any overheating.
L The battery charger is electronic and sparks are not
generated when the clamps are rubbed together. This
method cannot be used to check equipment operations.
