5. USER MODE

5.1. General concepts

Press the User mode button to put KeyLab mkII into User mode. 10 User presets are

available, each with its own set of MIDI controller assignments for nearly everything on the

front and rear panels. The presets can be named for quick identification, as can all three

banks of encoders and faders.

When a control is activated from the top level of User mode the display will show which

control is being used, the type of MIDI data it is sending, its assigned MIDI channel, and the

value of the data being sent.

All of these parameters can be edited from the front panel in User Edit mode [p.45] or by

using the MIDI Control Center [p.62]. There are also keyboard shortcuts [p.49] available to

help you quickly find the parameters you want to edit.

5.2. User preset selection

Once the KeyLab mkII is in User mode, you can turn the center knob to scroll through the

10 Presets. When you find the one you want, click the center knob to select it. The KeyLab

mkII will be configured immediately with the settings that were stored with that preset.

5.3. The Display in Play mode

The top level of User mode is known as Play mode. In this mode the display provides instant

feedback about what is happening, such as octave shift, which chord is being played, and

which control has been activated.

When a control is activated there are two main types of data that will be displayed:

Controls such as the Expression pedal and Mod Wheel show their names and their current

value in the top row and their MIDI assignments in the bottom row.

In the case of the faders, encoders, and the Select buttons, the display contains an

additional field.

For these controls the top row of the display shows which control is being used, which of

the three control banks is currently selected, and the value of the data being sent, and then

is shows the MIDI channel assignment and the data type being sent.

Play mode: Expression pedal activated

User Edit mode: Encoder 1, Bank 1 selected
