4 DIGITAL SELECTIVE CALLING Distress call transmission CAUTION Distress calls may be transmitted under conditions of emergency only i e your vessel is in danger When a distress acknowledge Vs of sinking and or a person s life is in danger alarm sounds and channel 16 Push and hold EMER until is automatically selected Push any key to cancel the alarm you hear 4 short beeps change to one long beep The display changes as at right IHT INT nn ILI PUSH PTT INT RCV LOW mu SIRS PEK SIRS PEU VJL Push PTT to transmit the dis tress call nn ILI nn ILI ment is received emergency nn L0 ILI SI STRESS The transceiver remains on channel 70 until an acknowl edgement is received When no acknowledgement is received the distress call is re peated until an acknowledgement is received To cancel this turn power OFF then ON again Calls to you other than distress acknowledgement cannot be re ceived Transmit your distress call particulars by voice using the fol lowing procedure 1 MAYDAY 2 THIS IS name of your vessel 3 The 9 digit identity AND the call sign or other vessel iden tification 4 Your vessel s position if DSC does not include it 5 The nature of the distress and assistance required 6 Any other information which might facilitate the rescue Z NOTE When a GPS receiver NMEA 0183 is connected your vessel s position is automatically transmitted with the Vs distress call Z NOTE Acknowledgement of a DSC distress alert is normally made by coast stations only 14
