50 Ordinary motor oil transmission oil etc are not acceptable as replacements for the correct oil Poor quality oil or the wrong type of oil will cause engine damage 15 CARBURETORS Each carburetor is comprised of a main system used for gasoline supply during high and medium speed operation a pilot system for low speed operation a float mechanism for maintaining the fuel level in the float chamber and a starter system to supply a rich fuel mixture for startine Carburetor Construction ThrottleAdjusts Cable Adjuster Lock Nut Mixing Chamber Top Throttle Valve Spring Cable Adjuster Spring Seat Needle Clip jet Needle 1 hrottle Stop Rod Throttle Valzc Mounting Clamp Lock Nut Plunger Cap Plunger Spring Starter Plunger Carburetor Body Needle Jet Float Pin float Valve Scat Air Screw Gasket Pilot Jet Main Jet Float___ Float_Valve Float Chamber I Construction and Operation a Main System As Fig 181 shows the main system consists of the main jet Q jet needle 2 needle jet 3 throttle valve J and the air jet When the throttle valve is more than 1 4 open air is taken in principally through the main bore flowing beneath the throttle valve Due to this air flow a low pressure area is produced around the jet needle and fuel is drawn up through the main jet through the opening between the needle jet and jet needle and toward he main bore Air coming in through the air jet mixes with the fuel inside the needle jet and expedites the atomizing process When the mixture reaches the main bore 1 is combined with and further atomized by the b Pilot System Fig 182 shows the pilot system which includ the pilot jet pilot and pilot air screw Q When the engine is idling or running at l speed the throttle valve is almost complet closed and the principal air intake is through t pilot air inlet as controlled by the tapered p air screw This air mixes with the fuel drawn through the pilot jet and is spewed from the p outlet into the main bore where it further mix with the small current of air flowing there and finally drawn into the engine
