• Our goal is to produce tools that help you work safely and efficiently.
The most important safety device for this or any tool is YOU. Your care
and good judgment are the best protection against injury. All possible
hazards cannot be covered here, but we have tried to highlight some of
the important ones.
• Only qualified and trained operators should install, adjust or use this
power tool.
• This tool and its accessories must not be modified in any way.
• Do not use this tool if it has been damaged.
• If the hazard warning signs on the tool cease to be legible or become
detached, replace without delay.

Hydraulic supply and connection hazards
• Disconnect the power supply and depressurize the hydraulic system
before disconnecting or connecting hoses, fittings, or accessories.
• Never grab, touch, or in any way come in contact with a hydraulic pres-
sure leak. Escaping oil can penetrate the skin and cause injury.
• All hydraulic connections must be securely connected. Loose or
improper threaded fittings can be potentially dangerous if pressurized.
Severe over tightening can cause premature thread failure. Fittings
need to be only securely tightened and leak free.
• Ensure quick-disconnect couplings are clean and fully engaged.
• Threaded connections such as fittings, gauges etc. must be clean,
securely tightened and leak-free.
• Do not use two twin hoses connected end-to-end. This will deliver high
pressure to the retract side of the tool and cause it to malfunction.
• Do not use kinked hoses. Inspect and replace if damaged.
• Protect hoses and connectors from hazards such as sharp edges, heat
or impacts. Inspect daily and replace if cracked, worn, damaged or
leaking.
• Do not attempt to loosen the swivel connection.
• Ensure that all hydraulic equipment and accessories are rated for the
pump’s maximum working pressure.
Electric supply and connection hazard (for electric
pumps)
• WARNING - THIS MACHINE MUST BE EARTHED. Refer to installa-
tion instructions supplied with this machine.
• Always shut off power supply and disconnect pump when not in use,
before changing accessories or when making repairs.
• Guard against electric shock. Do not use electric pump if the plug is not
grounded.
• Avoid electrical overloading. Use the recommended voltage / power
supply as stated on the motor.
• Minimize the length of extension cords and ensure they are of adequate
wire size and are grounded.
• Electric motors can spark and should never be used in any potentially
explosive atmosphere unless certified for that purpose.
Air supply and connection hazards (for air driven
pumps)
• Air under pressure can cause severe injury.
• Always shut off air supply, drain hose of air pressure and disconnect
pump from air supply when not in use, before changing accessories or
when making repairs.
• Never direct air at yourself or anyone else.
• Whipping hoses can cause severe injury. Always check for damaged or
loose hoses and fittings.
• Whenever universal twist couplings are used, lock pins must be
installed.
• Do not exceed maximum air supply pressure as stated on pump.
Projectile hazards
• Always wear impact-resistant eye and face protection when involved
with or near the operation, repair or maintenance of the tool or changing
accessories on the tool.
• Be sure all others in the area are wearing impact-resistant eye and face
protection. Even small projectiles can injure eyes and cause blindness.
• Serious injury can result from over-torqued or under-torqued fasteners,
which can break, or loosen and separate. Released assemblies can
become projectiles. Assemblies requiring a specific torque must be
checked using a torque meter.
• NOTE So-called “click” torque wrenches do not check for potentially
dangerous over-torqued conditions.
• Use only high quality impact wrench rated sockets and accessories in
good condition. Sockets in poor condition or hand sockets and acces-
sories can shatter.
• Ensure that the workpiece is securely fixed.
Operating hazards
• Wear proper safety attire. When handling / operating hydraulic equip-
ment, use work gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, safety shoes, hearing
protection and other applicable clothing. Do not wear loosefitting gloves
or gloves with cut or frayed fingers.
• Avoid unexpected startup. The pump remote control is for the tool
operator only. One person should operate both the pump and the tool.
• Stay clear during operation. Do not place hands or other body parts
between reaction arm and reaction surface. The tool is intended for
handsfree operation.
• Fingers can be crushed in openended crowfoot nutrunners.
• Do not use force. Do not hammer on socket or tool to enhance
performance. If the nut will not turn with the wrench you are using, use
a larger size tool.
• Use the right tool for the job. Do not force small tools or attachments to
do the job of a larger tool. Do not use a tool for purposes not intended.
• Secure the impact socket to the square drive. Ensure the square drive
retainer is fully and securely engaged on the square drive.
• Proper torque reaction is essential:
- Ensure the reaction arm is firmly abutted against a stationary object
(i.e. an adjacent nut, flange, equipment housing etc.).
- Adjust reaction arm or plate according to instruction manual. Avoid
excessive play.
- Ensure the reaction arm is fully engaged prior to operation.
- Ensure that the hydraulic hoses and hose connections are well clear
of any obstructions and the reaction points.
- Then, and only then, apply momentary pressure to the system to
