SIDE STAND
Support
the
motorcycle
on a level surface.
Check
the
side
stand
spring
for
damage
or
loss of
tens
ion
.
Check
the
side stand
assembly
for f
reedom
of
move-
ment and
lub
ricate
the
s
ide
stand
pivot
if necessary.
Check the side stand
ignition
cut-o
ff
system:
- Sit astride
the
motorcycle
and
raise
the
side stand.
- S
tart
the
engine
wi
th the
transmiss
ion
in neutral,
then s
hift
the
transmi
ssion
into
gear,
with
the clutch
lever squeezed.
-
Move
the
side stand f
ull
dow
n.
- The engine should
stop
as the side stand
is l
owered
.
If th ere is a
problem
with
the
system
, check
the
side
stand
sw
itch (sect
ion
19).

FRONT SUSPENSION INSPECTION
Check
the
ac
tion
of
the
fork
s by compressing
the
front
suspens
ion

imes
.
Check the
enti
re
fork
assembly
for
signs
of
leaks,
damage
or
loose fasteners.
Replace da
maged
compo
nents
tha
t
canno
t
be re
paired
.
Tighten
all
nuts
and
bolts
(page 1-13).
Refer
to
sectio
n 13
for
fork service.
REAR SUSPENSION INSPECTION
Check
the
action
of
the
sho
ck
absorber
by
com
press-
ing it several
times.
Check
the
e
ntire
shoc
k
absorbe
r a
ssemb
ly
for
signs
of
leaks,
damage
or loose fasteners.
Replace
damaged
compone
nts
tha
t cannot be
repa
ired
.
Tighten all
nuts
and
bolts
(page 1-13).
Place
the
motor
cycle
on
a work
stand
or
box
to raise
the
rear
wh
eel o
ff
the
ground
and
support
the
motor-
cycle securely. Check
for
worn
sw
ingarm
bearings
by
grabbi
ng
the
swingarm
and
attempting
to
move
the
whee
l side
to
side. Replace
the
bear
ings if any loose-
ness is n
oted
.
