AsmanyasthreepasswordsmaybeneededforanyLenovocomputer:the
power‐onpassword(POP),theharddiskpassword(HDP),andthesupervisor
password(SVP).
Ifanyofthesepasswordshasbeenset,apromptforitappearsonthescreen
wheneverthecomputeristurnedon.Thecomputerdoesnotstartuntilthe
passwordisentered.
Exception:IfonlyanSVPisinstalled,thepasswordpromptdoesnotappear
whentheoperatingsystemisbooted.
Power-on password
Apower‐onpassword(POP)protectsthesystemfrombeingpoweredonbyan
unauthorizedperson.Thepasswordmustbeenteredbeforeanoperatingsystem
canbebooted.
Hard-disk password
Therearetwohard‐diskpasswords(HDPs):
+UserHDP‐fortheuser
+MasterHDP‐forthesystemadministrator,whocanuseittogetaccesstothe
harddiskdriveeveniftheuserhaschangedtheuserHDP
Attention:IftheuserHDPhasbeenforgotten,checkwhetheramasterHDPhas
beenset.Ifithas,itcanbeusedforaccesstotheharddiskdrive.Ifnomaster
HDPisavailable,neitherLenovonorLenovoauthorizedservicetechnicians
provideanyservicestoreseteithertheuserorthemasterHDP,ortorecoverdata
fromtheharddiskdrive.Theharddiskdrivecanbereplacedforascheduledfee.
Supervisor password
Asupervisorpassword(SVP)protectsthesysteminformationstoredintheBIOS
SetupUtility.TheusermustentertheSVPinordertogetaccesstotheBIOS
SetupUtilityandchangethesystemconfiguration.
Attention:IftheSVPhasbeenforgottenandcannotbemadeavailabletothe
servicer,thereisnoserviceproceduretoresetthepassword.Thesystemboard
mustbereplacedforascheduledfee.
