CHAPTER 1
System Introduction
1.1 System Description
The chassis-based OLT2412 (Optical Line Terminal) connects and manages the end to end GPON
(Gigabit Passive Optical Network) solution for delivering broadband data, high-quality voice, and IP
television services. The OLT provides:
• Fiber to the building (FTTB) or neighborhood (FTTN) connections for chassis-based Multi-Dwelling
Units (MDUs).
• Fiber to the curb (FTTC) connections for standalone VDSL Outside Plant (OSP) MDUs.
• Fiber to the home (FTTH) connections for Optical Network Terminal (ONT) subscriber devices.

This guide focuses on the FTTB and FTTH connections.
The OLT is 5.7 U and installs in a standard 19-inch (482 mm) equipment rack. Temperature
hardening, front access, dual power modules for redundancy, dual management cards for
redundancy, and hot-swappability of all slots help maximize network uptime.
