Syslog
Use the syslog feature to send logs to an external syslog server.
34.1 Syslog Overview
The syslog protocol allows devices to send event notification messages across an IP network to
syslog servers that collect the event messages. A syslog-enabled device can generate a syslog
message and send it to a syslog server.
Syslog is defined in RFC 3164. The RFC defines the packet format, content and system log related
information of syslog messages. Each syslog message has a facility and severity level. The syslog
facility identifies a file in the syslog server. Refer to the documentation of your syslog program for
details. See Section 45.2 on page 303 for more information on the OLT’s logs.
34.2 Syslog Commands
Use these commands to configure the device’s system logging settings and to configure the
external syslog servers.

Enables syslog logging.

Disables syslog logging.

Sets the IP address of the syslog server and the severity level.
level: 0-7
no syslog server <ip-address>
Deletes the specified syslog server.
syslog server <ip-address>
inactive
Disables syslog logging to the specified syslog server.
no syslog server <ip-address>
inactive
Enables syslog logging to the specified syslog server.
