1.4.1.3 Uplink and Subtending
The SFP+ slots can function in either subtending or uplink mode. Connect a port in uplink mode to
a backbone Ethernet switch or router. The management card allows traffic between the ports in
uplink mode and the GPON or GE ports on the line cards.
Use subtending mode to daisy-chain OLTs or Ethernet switches. The OLT allows traffic between the
ports in subtending mode and the ports in uplink mode. The OLT blocks traffic between the ports in
subtending mode and the subscriber ports on the line cards.
