7-12 ENGINE LUBRICATION SYSTEM

Oil Pump

Oil Pump Removal

•

Drain the coolant (see Coolant change in the Periodic

Maintenance chapter).

•

Drain the engine oil (see Engine Oil Change in the Peri-

odic Maintenance chapter).

•

Remove the engine (see Engine Removal in the Engine

Removal/Installation chapter).

•

Remove:

Water Pump (see Water Pump Removal in the Cooling

System chapter)

Clutch Cover (see Clutch Cover Removal in the Clutch

chapter)

Alternator Cover with Shift Change Link and Pedal (see

Alternator Rotor/Starter Clutch Removal in the Electrical

System chapter)

Chain Guide (see Primary Chain Guide Wear Inspection

in the Crankshaft/Transmission c hapter)

Starter Motor (see Starter Motor Removal in the Electri-

cal System chapter)

Upper Crank Case Mounting Bolts

•

Turn the engine upside down and remove the following:

Oil Pan (see Oil Pan Removal)

Oil Screen Bolts [A]

Oil Screen [B]

Oil Pump Outer Oil Pipe Bolt [A]

Oil Pump Outer Oil Pipe [B]

Lower Crank Case Mounting Bolts

Lower Crank Case

•

Remove the circlip [A] that holds the oil pump gear [B] on

the oil pump shaft [C].

•

Remove the oil pump gear.

•

Take off the oil pump mounting bolts [D].

•

Remove the oil pump from the lower case.
