CRANKSHAFT TRANSMISSION 8 Turn the crankshaft slowly to measure the runout The difference between the highest and lowest dial gauge readings TIR is the amount of runout f the measurement exceeds the service limit replace the crankshaft Crankshaft Runout Service Limit 0 05mmTIR Crankshaft Runout Crankshaft Main Bearing Insert Journai Clearance Standard 0 014 0 038 mm Service Limit 0 08 mm If clearance is within the standard no bearing replace ment is required If clearance is between 0 038 mm and the service lim 0 08 mm replace the bearing inserts with inser painted blue Cehck insert journal clearance wit plastigage The clearance may exceed the standar slightly but it must not be less than the minimum order to avoid bearing seizure If clearance exceeds the service limit measure th diameter of the crankshaft main journal Crankshaft Main Journal Diameter Standard Service Limit Crankshaft Main Bearing Insert Journai Wear Bearing insert journal wear is measured using a plastigagc press gauge which is inserted into the clearance to be measured The plastigage indicates the clearance by the amount it is compressed and widened when the parts are assembled Measure the bearing insert journal clearance QSplit the crankcase and wipe each bearing insert and journal surface clean of oil Cut strips of plastigage to bearing insert width and place a strip on each journal parallel to the crankshaft so that the plastigage will be compressed between the journal and the bearing insert Install the lower crankcase half and tighten the case bolts to the specified torque see Exploded View NOTE Do not turn the crankshaft during clearance measure ment 29 984 30 000 mm 29 96 mm If any journal has worn past the service limit replac the crankshaft with a new one If the measured journal diameters are not less than th service limit but do not coincide with the origina diameter markings on the crankshaft make new mark on it Crankshaft Main Journal Diameter Marks None 29 984 29 992 mm 1 29 993 30 000 mm Put the lower crankcase half on the upper crankcas half without bearing inserts and tighen the case to the specified torque and sequence see Crankcase Assembly Measure the main bearing bore diameter and mark the upper crankcase half in accordance with the bore diameter Crankshaft Journal Dia Mark Location ORemove the lower crankcase half and measure the plastigagc width to determine the bearing insert journal clearance 1 Crankshaft Main Journal Diameter Marks I or None NOTE 1 Journal 2 Plastigage The mark already on the upper crankcase half should coincide with the measurement
