ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 15 WARNING I These cleaning fluids are usually highly flammable and harmful if breathed for prolonged periods Be sure to heed the fluid manufacturer s warnings Stator Coil Installation Notes Alternator Lead Installation Alternator Rotor Cleaning Area 1 The tapcred portion of the crankshaft 2 The tapered portion of the alternator rotor 1 Silicon Sealant Applied Area 4 Alternator Lead 2 Pickup Coil 5 Pickup Coil lead 3 Grommets 6 Alternator Cover When installing the alternator rotor fit the rotor on the crankshaft tapered portion and tighten the rotor bolt temporarily Tighten the alternator rotor bolt to the specified torque see Exploded View while holding the alter nator rotor steady with the rotor holder Fit the leads grommet into the notch in the alternator cover Note the following Stator Coil Removal Remove the alternator Cover Remove the pickup coil screws and take off the coils Remove the alternator stator Allen bolts and take off the stator oCIamp the alternator leads and pickup coil leads as shown Apply silicone sealant to the grommets and fit the grommets as shown Install the pickup coil see Pickup Coil Installation Tighten the stator Allen bolts to the specified torque see Exploded View Alternator Inspection A Clamps B Stator C Allen Bolts There are three types of alternator failures sho open wire burned out or loss in rotor magnetism short or open in one of the coil wires will result either a low output or no output at all A loss in rot magnetism which may be caused by dropping or hittin the alternator by leaving it near an electromagne field or just by aging will result in low output To check the alternator output voltage do th following procedures Refer to the appropria chapters and charging system Wiring Diagram Turn off the ignition switch Disconnect connector 2 Connect the multimeter as shown in table Start the engine Run it at the rpm given in table Note the voltage readings total 3 measurements
