15 12 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Alternator Rotor Removal Charging System Alternator Cover Removal Drain the coolant see Coolant Draining in Cooling System chapter Remove the water pipes from the water pump Remove the alternator cover see Alternator Cover Removal Hold the alternator rotor steady with the rotor holder special tool and remove the rotor bolt A Rotor Holder 57001 1222 B Rotor C Rotor Bolt A Water Pipes B Shift Lever C Engine Sprocket Cover D Water Pump Remove the rotor with rotor pullers special tools Remove the shift lever Remove the engine sprocket cover Disconnect the alternator lead and pickup coil lead connectors Remove the cover bolts and take the cover off the crankcase Alternator Cover Installation Note Apply silicone sealant to the crankcase halves mating surface on the front and rear side of the cover mount A Rotor Puller 57001 1216 B Rotor Puller 57001 1223 CAUTION olf the rotor is difficult to remove turn the puller using a wrench while tapping the heed of the puller with a hammer Do not attempt to strike the alternator rotor itself Striking the rotor can cause the magnets to lose their magnetism 1 Silicone Sealant Applied Areas Alternator Rotor Installation Notes Clean the following parts with an oil less cleaning fluid such as trichlorethylene or acetone
