10 6 FINAL DRIVE Drive Chain Removal Drive Chain 20 Link Length Standard Service Limit 317 5 318 4 mm 323 mm If any measurements exceeds the service limit replace Remove the engine sprocket cover see Engine Sprocket Removal Remove the left side footpeg bracket see Left Footpeg Bracket Removal in Frame chapter the chain Also replace the engine and rear sprockets when the drive chain is replaced WARNING j For safety use only the standard chain It is an endless type and should not be cut for installation Drive Chain Lubrication The chain should be lubricated with a lubricant which will both prevent the exterior from rusting and also absorb shock and reduce friction in the interior of the chain An effective good quality lubricant specially for mulated for chains is best for regular chain lubrication If a special lubricant is not available a heavy oil such as SAE 90 is preferred to a lighter oil because it will stay on the chain longer and provide better lubrication If the chain appears especially dirty it should be cleaned before lubrication icAUTIONl oThe O rings between the side plates seal in the lubricant between the pin and the bushing To avoid damaging the O rings and resultant loss of lubricant observe the following rules CUse only kerosene or diesel oil for cleaning an O ring drive chain Any other cleaning solution such as gasoline or trichloroethylene will cause deterioration and swelling of the O rings olmmediately blow the chain dry with compressed air after cleaning Complete cleaning and drying the chain within 10 minutes A Engine Sprocket Cover C Footpeg Bracket B Shift Lever Remove the LI I muffler Remove the right side footpeg bracket see peg Bracket Removal in Frame chapter Remove the RH muffler Remove rhe rear caliper sec Rear Caliper Brakes chapter Remove the rear wheel see Rear Wheel Wheels Tircs chapter Remove the swing arm pivot nut Do not pivot shaft Right Foot Removal in Removal in remove the Apply oil to the sides of the rollers so that oil will penetrate to the rollers and bushings Apply the oil to the O rings so that the O rings will be coated with oil Wipe off any excess oil Drive Chain Lubrication Oil Applied Areas A Pivot Nut B Pivot Shaft Remove the lower shock absorber nut Do not remove the bolt Remove the uni trak tie rod upper nut Do not remove the bolt
