ENGINE TOP END 4 1 Camshaft Chain Guide Wear NOTE Do not turn the camshaft when the ptasdgage is between the journal and camshaft cap Visually inspect the rubber on the guides If the rubber is damaged cut or is missing pieces replace the guides Remove the camshaft caps again and measure the plastigage width to determine the clearance between each journal and the camshaft cap Measure the widest portion of the plastigage Camshaft Chain Guides m M I Vl Z VvVZ 11 1 Rubber 2 Front Chain Guide 3 Rear Chain Guide 1 Plastigage width Measurement If the clearance exceeds the service limit replace the camshaft with a new one and measure the clearance again If the clearance still remains out of the limit replace the cylinder head unit Compression Measurement Camshaft Bearing Oil Clearance Standard 0 030 0 071 mm Service Limit 0 16 mm Cylinder Head Camshaft Chain Wear Hold the chain taut with a force of about 5 kg in some manner and measure a 20 link length Since the chain may wear unevenly take measurements at several places If any measurement exceeds the service limit replace the chain o Refer to p 4 11 in the Base Manual noting the lowing Throughly warm up the engine so that engin between the piston and cylinder wall will help compression as it does during normal running Stop the engine remove the spark plugs and fuel and attach compression gauge special tool firmly the spark plug hole Compression Gauge Camshaft Chain 20 1ink Length Standard 127 0 127 4 mm Service Limit 128 9 mm J Z 1 Chain Length Measurement 20 link Length __________ Vw Z 1 0 0 O O O J vol o Q 1 Compression Gauge 57001 221 2 Adapter 57001 1225 3 Gasket 57001 1224
