Delay link
The Delay Link option allows control of several band delays with a single
adjustment. This means that once all the drivers in a single cabinet have been
aligned, the whole cabinet can be delayed relative to the input signal, or
another cabinet, by linking these band delays as one. Any offsets applied
before linking will be retained after linking.
In the Delay Link screen, turn the rotary encoder until the desired linking
configuration is shown. The linking options are dependant on the overall
configuration of the unit and will change between pairs of outputs and single
outputs when the Stereo Link is used. The linking is shown by two line
symbols, the left vertical line indicates which outputs are able to be linked and,
the square bracket symbol immediately next to it is displayed when the link is
engaged.
The band delays are most often used to electronically align the driver voice
coils with the other drivers in the system, so the sound sources are coherent in
the physical plane.
The delay may be represented in either milliseconds (ms), meters (m), feet (ft)
or frames per second (fps). The display units are changed in the Utilities and
pressing the Utils button from the 'Delay' screen will access the 'Delay Units'
screen immediately.
When represented in milliseconds each increment is about 11 microseconds,
(the reading will change in 10 or 11us steps) which translates in physical terms
to a distance of 3.4mm, giving high accuracy in terms of alignment. If delay
units are set to fps, then the value can be adjusted in half frame increments. If
delay units are changed from say meters to fps in the Utilities the FDS-366T
will automatically convert the value of the delay. This also allows fine tuning
once a value has been set in frames.
Turn the rotary encoder to move the icons from the left, the vertical line being
the zero position (no delay) to right (maximum delay). The actual delay value is
shown above the diagram, and the icons in the display represent the offsets
between each output. Press the output channel buttons to switch between
different sets of linked outputs; the currently selected output is shown by its
driver icon being part solid instead of just outline.
Note that the maximum assignable delay is limited by any delay also assigned
to input channels.
