air and maintaining the interior at a temperature of 27°C in summer, with external conditions of 32°C and 50%
relative humidity, and an 18°C temperature in winter with -5°C and 80% r.h. outside. Obviously, to guarantee
unit functioning at even the highest outside temperatures, we sized, produced and tested them under extreme
utilisation limits of over 40°C, hence with a temperature range difficult to achieve and maintain in direct expan-
sion systems. In addition, due to the positioning of the equipment with respect to the boundary walls, we were
required to achieve maximum daytime noise limits of less than 70 dB(A) at three metres and even lower night-
time levels. So to be able to satisfy these demanding acoustic requirements we had to implement a series of
specially designed expedients for these units, including the adoption of special silencers on the batteries and
anti-condensation fans, which in any event are equipped with regulators to reduce the number of revs, and
consequently the sound level, when the compressors are not functioning at full capacity”.
EXTREMELY COMPACT AND SILENT MADE-TO-MEASURE EqUIPMENT
For this prestigious plant, Tecnoclima was not therefore to provide their standard units, already renowned for
many years for their technical quality, but “custom built” with particularly well planned technical, construc-
tional and even visual characteristics. For both the larger and smaller plants, six roof top units were specially
produced, particularly silent and compact, with extremely reduced lateral space requirements and an air
path different from that of standard models. Furthermore, as all the equipment was installed against a wall,
it was designed and constructed in such a way that access to internal parts for inspection and maintenance
purposes is possible by operating on three sides only, excluding the rear.
With regard to other constructional aspects, each unit includes a cooling section driven by ecological gas
coolant, with independent cooling circuits, and special low-rev anti-condensation fans with modulating func-
tion and each independent from the next. The heating section uses patented heat exchangers in corrosion-
resistant stainless steel, with ultra-high yield combustion. The air treatment section, characterized by its high
level yet low-resistance aeraulic performance, includes high-efficiency filters, an innovative antifreeze system,
dual-circuit condensation batteries and transmission driven centrifugal fans. A fully automatic and centralized
electronic multiprocessor controller supervises unit function, optimising performance and adapting this to
the needs of the treated area.
LIMITED INVESTMENT AND ENERGY SAVINGS
““By choosing this system”, Vescovi continues, “apart from eliminating the need to construct the central ther-
mal and refrigeration units and the hot and cold fluid distributors, therefore considerably reducing the initial
investment, we were able to achieve a solid and significant
operational economy since in our independent units there is
no dispersion, no thermal inertia and equipment function is
directly proportionate to the conditioning needs of the area.
Moreover, as each piece of equipment has its own cooling,
heating and aerial circuit and functions independently, the
system proves decidedly more flexible and more reliable. So
on balance, in both economic and energy terms, this system
with independent roof top units proves greatly advantageous
from all points of view. In other words, a big step forwards”.
And if Ferrari chose it...!
