Camshaft
Camshaft Removal
Remove:
Cylinder Head Cover (see Cylinder Head Cover Re-
moval)
Timing Inspection Cap [A]
Flywheel Cap [B]
First, bring the piston to the TDC (of either the compres-
sion or exhaust stroke).
Place a wrench over the flywheel nut and turn it counter-
clockwise to align the TDC mark [A] with the center of the
groove [B] of the inspection hole.
Remove:
Camshaft Chain Tensioner (see Camshaft Chain Ten-
sioner Removal).
Camshaft Cap Bolts [1 4] (sequence numbers)
Camshaft Caps [A]
Remove:
Positioning Rings [A]
Disengage the C amshafts [B] from camshaft chain [C].
Staff a clean cloth into the camshaft chain t unnel to keep
any parts from dropping into the crankcase.
CAUTION
The crankshaft may be turned while the camshafts
are removed.
Always pull the chain taut while turning the crank-
shaft. This avoids kinking the chain on the lower
(crankshaft) sprocket. A kinked chain could dam-
age both the chain and the sprocket.
