Ignition Timing
Ignition Timing Inspection
Remove the timing inspection cap [A].
Attach the timing light [A] to the ignition coil lead in the
manner prescribed by the manufacturer.
Special Tool - Timing Light: 57001–1241
Start the engine and aim the timing light at the ignition
timing m ark [B] on the flywheel.
Run the engine at the speeds specified and note the align-
ment of the ignition timing marks.
Check the engine speed, using the engine revolution
tester [A] for high accuracy.

Engine speed r/min (rpm)
Hole notch aligns with:
2 000 Line mark on magneto rotor
If the ignition timing is incorrect, check the crankshaft sen-
sor (see Crankshaft Sensor Inspection).
If the crankshaft sensor are normal, check the C.D.I unit
(see C.D.I Unit Inspection).
Install the timing inspection cap.
Torque - Timing Inspection Cap: 4.0 m (0 .4 kgf·m, 35
in·lb)
